2017 January Student of the Month
Hannah Carter is a remarkable young woman with strong convictions and an extraordinary work ethic. Hannah is a true friend to those around her, a loving sister and daughter, a dedicated student, and a natural leader. In all aspects of her life, she strives to do her very best, always with a positive, genuine attitude. When walking through the hallways, a sincere smile is almost always on her face. It is a great pleasure to announce her as January Student of the Month.
Through her high school career, Hannah has been an active leader in student government all four years. She also has participated in golf, large group and individual speech, and the National Honor Society – all while maintaining the academic excellence of being on high honor roll. She also challenges herself by taking many online DMACC classes. Over her high school years, she has tried a variety of additional activities, including sports, music, and academic competitions.
Outside of school, Hannah has been active in the Water’s Edge Church. Hannah’s faith is reflected through her involvement with Riptide, her youth group, where she has been a member of the worship team and has participated in the St. Louis Dream Center Mission trip.
Hannah loves to serve others. She fell in love with mission work on a trip to Costa Rica in 2014. That desire to serve others stays local too. She volunteers with Special Olympics for volleyball, she helps with a junior league golf camp, volunteers at the Boone Humane Society, and also with the Iowa Ministry Network at youth events.
Hannah is the daughter of Ebon and Ranee Carter, who also have been called to serve others. Hannah and her parents work together at Sunstream Retreat Center, the Des Moines area retreat center for the Christian Retreats Network. Hannah’s older sister Liz, graduated from OHS in 2012 and works with a group foster home as a house parent.
Hannah’s future plans include attending the University of Valley Forge in Phoenixville, Pennsylvania, where she will major in Intercultural Studies with an emphasis in business.
Hannah has always held herself to the highest standards, making her a truly exemplary person with a promising future. She is a wonderful young woman with a passion for life and learning and it has been an honor to have her as a member of OHS.
Congratulations, Hannah on being named January student of the month!
