As our seniors start applying to colleges, one question that usually comes to mind is cost. There is financial aid available. A fantastic site to go online to is www.fastweb.com. This site contains valuable information for college planning and financial aid/scholarships. There are many scholarships out there if you take the time to look for them. We also encourage students to stop by the Guidance Office if they have any questions or need information to help plan for college.
*Coca-Cola Scholarship- Must be a senior who is motivated and involved in high school activities. Apply online at www.coca-colascholars.org. Deadline is October 31, 2004.
*SAE Engineering Scholarships- For criteria, information, and applications, stop by the Guidance Office. Deadline December 1, 2004.
*Veterans of Foreign Wars Scholarships- Information, criteria, and deadline available at www.vfw.org.
*Iowa Newspaper Foundation Scholarship Program- Scholarships available for seniors interested in a newspaper career. Information available in Guidance Office or website www.inanews.com/scholarships.pdf. Deadline is February 4, 2005.
*Iowa Farm Bureau Federation Scholarship- Sons and/or daughters of Iowa Farm Bureau members are eligible. Applicants must be working toward a degree in agriculture and/or agribusiness. Other criteria and application available in Guidance Office. Deadline is March 1, 2005.
*Governor Terry E. Branstad Iowa State Fair Scholarship- Must actively participate at the Iowa State Fair (past or present). Be a graduating senior from an Iowa high school. Plan to enroll at an Iowa college or university. Other criteria and application available in Guidance Office. Deadline is May 1, 2005.
*Union Pacific Employees Club #76 Scholarship Award- Seniors with a GPA of 2.0 or better and must be enrolled or accepted by a school of higher education or an accredited vocational/technical school. Must submit application along with letter stating why you deserve this scholarship, potential to succeed and personal goals for the future, and two letters of recommendation. Applications available in Guidance Office. Deadline is March 15, 2005. Applicants with affiliation to the Union Pacific Railroad will have priority.
*Grand Lodge of Iowa Scholarships- Criteria and information available in Guidance Office. Forms are now found on the Grand Lodge of Iowa's website: www.gl-iowa.org then click on "Scholarships of the Grand Lodge." Deadline is February 1, 2005.
*West Central Excellence in Agriculture Scholarship- Applicant must be a high school senior. Applicant and/or parent must be a voting member in good standing. Must have a GPA of 2.5 or better through his/her junior year. Must pursue a career in agriculture or enter an ag-related field of study at any accredited post-secondary school. Applications and criteria available in the Guidance Office. Deadline is February 11, 2005.
*Careers in Agriculture Scholarship- High school seniors pursuing a two or four year degree in agronomy or related crop production, or closely related fields. Applicants from dependents of employees of Agriliance, CHS Inc., or Land O'Lakes Inc., are not eligible. Applications available in Guidance Office. Deadline March 1, 2005.
*Iowa Soybean Association Scholarship- High School seniors who are furthering their education at an ag-related college or university. Criteria and applications available in Guidance Office. Deadline is March 1, 2005.
*Great Clips for Hair Scholarship- Iowa Great Clips salon owners are offering five $300 scholarships to be used toward at any cosmetology or barbering school in Iowa. Criteria and applications are available in Guidance Office. Deadline is April 1, 2005.
*Pete A. Zimmer Scholarship- The Pete A. Zimmer Scholarship was created to provide financial assistance in the amount of $250 to a graduating high school senior who demonstrates academic performance with a GPA in the 2.5 to 3.0 range. The selected applicant will be someone who has shown improvement throughout his/her high school career but does not necessarily have the GPA to secure other types of scholarships based on GPA alone. Applications available and due by March 1st in the Guidance Office.
*Boone County Pork Producers Scholarship- Must be a high school senior who is a resident of Boone County. Student must be planning to enroll in an accredited two- or -four-year institution and to pursue a course of study related to agriculture. Applications available in Guidance Office and due by January 21, 2005.
*Iowa Broadcasters Association- Must be an Iowa high school graduate and a resident of Iowa. Must be planning to enroll full-time in the broadcast program at an IBA approved Iowa college or university. Criteria and applications available in Guidance Office or on the web at www.iowabroadcasters.com Must be postmarked by April 1.
*Boone County Charter Chapter of the American Business Women's Association Scholarship- Must be a Boone County resident. Must be attending a college or university during the 2005-2006 school year. Applications available in Guidance Office. Deadline is February 15, 2005.
*Commitment to Agriculture Scholarship Program- Must be a high school senior enrolled in the United States. Have immediate family actively engaged in production agriculture. Applications and other criteria available in the Guidance Office or online at: www.monsato.com, www.nafb.com, or www.ffa.org Deadline is February 15, 2005.
*Boone County Cattlemen Scholarship- Must be a Boone county resident and graduating senior. Must show interest in the cattle industry and pursuing a 2-4 year degree in agriculture. Applications available in the Guidance Office. Deadline is April 1, 2005.
*2005 Sam Walton Community Scholarship Program- For criteria and application go to www.walmartfoundation.org. Deadline is February 1, 2005.
*Boone Knights of Columbus Leo Council 814 Scholarship- Must be a Catholic graduate planning on attending a Catholic College or University, or DesMoines Area Community College at the Boone Campus. Application and Criteria available in the Guidance Office. Deadline is March 1.
*LINC Community Involvement Committee Scholarship- Must plan on attending Iowa State University in the Fall of 2005. Criteria and application available at http://www.stuorg.iastate.edu/linc/ Deadline March 1, 2005.
*Pearl Hull Falk Scholarship- Must be of the Protestant faith, a resident of the State of Iowa and a full-time student at the University of Iowa. For an application contact: Lia Lovelace, Trust Administrator, 1-800-247-4418 or email llovelace@isbt.com Deadline May 2, 2005.
*Best Buy Scholarship- Awarded to graduating high school seniors dedicated to helping their communities. To learn more, visit www.BestBuy.com and click on Community Relations. Apply by February 15, 2005.
*Alliant Energy Foundation Community Service Scholarship Program- Some criteria include leadership experience and community service or volunteer activities, GPA, standardized test scores and the content of a 250 word or less essay. Complete details and applications available at www.alliantenergy.com/foundationscholarship. Deadline is March 15, 2005.
*American Cancer Society Youth Scholarship Program- You are eligible to apply if you were diagnosed with cancer before the age of 21 and currently under the age of 21, are a legal resident of Iowa, Minnesota, South Dakota or Wisconsin for at least one year, accepted to attend an accredited two to four year university or vocational/technical school. Scholarship recipients will be based on their commitment to academic or vocational goals, current financial need, leadership, and community service. Applications available in the Guidance Office. Deadline is April 1, 2005.
*Boone Rotary Club Scholarship- Applications available in the Guidance Office. Must be postmarked on or before April 15, 2005.
*Brian Pearson Memorial Scholarship- Applicants must be high school juniors and participated in the Iowa Games. Other criteria and applications available in the Guidance Office. Deadline is May 13, 2005.
*Boone County Soil and Water Conservation District Scholarship- For Iowa high school seniors to use their first year of college pursuing programs of study in any field of agriculture or natural resources. Some criteria includes leadership and scholastic achievement. Applications available in Guidance Office. Deadline is February 25, 2005.
*Iowa Automobile Dealers Foundation for Education Scholarship- Applicants must be committed to the pursuit of automotive or truck-related studies. Background checks will be conducted on all finalists. Applications and criteria available in Guidance Office. Deadline is March 10, 2005.
*Iowa Pork Foundation President's Scholarship- Must plan on attending any two or four year institution in Iowa and major in an ag related field with an emphasis on swine production. Must maintain a 2.5 GPA. Applications and other requirements available in Guidance Office and must be postmarked by May 1, 2005.
Story County Master Gardeners Association Scholarship- Applicants must be a graduating senior of a Story, Boone, or Marshall County high school and plan to attend an Iowa College, University, or Community College. Must be full time student with a declared major in horticulture, floriculture, landscape horticulture, nursery and garden center mgt., greenhouse production, forestry, and turfgrass science and management. Applications available in Guidance Office and due April 15.
*The Jack Lamphere & the James P. Slater Memorial Scholarship's- Sponsored by the Marine Corps League. Applicants must be a graduate of a Boone County high school and will be enrolled as full-time students at the Boone Campus of DMACC in the fall semester. Deadline April 15.
*Iowa Lakes Community College Sanborn Junior Student Scholarship- For high school juniors with a GPA of 2.0 or above and planning to attend Iowa Lakes Community College full-time the fall semester after high school graduation. Other criteria and applications available in the Guidance Office. Deadline is April 1st.
*Lucille I. Burman Scholarship- Must be a senior who will enroll in an institution of further education. Applicant must have exhibited community service throughout their high school years, including dedication to the Ogden Community School District, their church, and their community. Applications and other criteria available in Guidance Office. Applications due April 1st.
*Alpha Delta Kappa Women Education Sorority- This is a $250 scholarship for females that will be attending DMACC. To apply for this scholarship you must submit a letter to the sorority describing yourself and your goals. Letters must be turned in to the Guidance Office by May 1st.
*Ogden Lions Club- Criteria for selection includes demonstrated cooperation, leadership, reliability and service during your high school years in and out of school, along with potential for future service and leadership. Applications available in Guidance Office. Deadline May 2.
*Ogden Business Women's Scholarship- Available to female and male applicants. Applications and criteria available in the Guidance Office. Deadline May 1.
*Ogden Education Association- Applications and criteria available in Guidance Office. Deadline April 16.
*The Tylenol Scholarship- For students interested in health-related careers. Applications and criteria available online at tylenol.com Deadline is April 30, 2005.
