Accelerated Reading Rocks!

By Jo Bardole

September 14, 2007

It's a new school year, and we are ready to read!

The kids in grades first through fourth are reading books for our Accelerated Reader program. With this program, the kids read books to match their reading levels and take quizzes on the books.  At the end of each month, the kids use the points they have earned from the quizzes to buy items at the AR Store.

The students can also earn certificates. The first certificate is Emerging Reader.  A student must earn five points to earn this certificate.  The books do not have to be read independently for this award.  The next certificate is Independent Reader.  To earn this certificate, a student must read at least three books independently and have earned a total of 10 points.

The following certificates may be earned more than once: Super (where students read 3 books worth 1 point each independently and pass the tests), Advanced (where students read 3 books worth 2 points each independently and pass the tests), and Star (where students read 3 books worth 5 points each independently on a 5,0 reading level or higher and pass the tests),

Happy Reading, everybody!
