What does the OMS staff do during teacher in-service time? Try to make the Middle School in Ogden the best school in Iowa is the simple answer. Academic improvements are to be made so students learn what they need to learn. Test scores are the starting point...analyze the scores, find out where there are weaknesses, and formulate a plan for improvement. Sounds easy doesn't it?
Is there anything else to consider? Yes, student reaction to our plan. What if they don't want to get better? What if they don't want to do their homework? We, the staff at OMS, need students to understand that their moral and performance characters are vital to getting a good education.
The teachers have a difficult task. The outcome we strive for is always the same -- to improve student learning. The strategies or methods used to achieve this goal are learned and practiced during in professional development time.
