January Student of the Month
January 08, 2008
The student of the month for January is a girl with a great smile, a dry wit, an easy laugh and a lot of substance. She enjoys her friends, her family and has a great conviction in her faith. You might think she is totally laid back until she walks into the music room. There in the music room you would find an artisan at work. She is a student with great gifts and an emotional fire for the arts. She is a creative soul and yet has managed to succeed academically as well. Trista Reis is the Ogden High School student of the month for January.
Trista is her given name according to her parents John and Diane Reis but here in the halls of O.H.S. you won't hear Trista, you will hear “Gig.” What a great nickname for someone so into her music. Trista is the current president of the choir and vice president of the band. She is a member of the National Honor Society, mixed chorus, chamber choir, show choir and jazz band. This fall Trista performed as Muzzy Van Hossmere in the O.H.S. production of "Thoroughly Modern Millie.” Trista was also selected this fall to the 2007 all state choir.
School has become the canvas on which Trista has written her life. Within the art room she has created many pieces that are visually expressive. Success has also followed her into many competitions. Speech and music contests have often been a focal point of her year. Trista's future plans will probably take her to Drake or Iowa State where she will study music and art.
Her mother likes to recall the time in fourth grade when she was given a solo in the elementary music program. She sang “Auld Lang Syne.” It wasn't her first choice. She overcame her disappointment and delivered a memorable performance. A simple lesson in life it seems but one that has served her well. Trista has a way of seeing the big picture. “Gig” O.H.S. is lucky to have you. You are one of a kind!! Congratulations!
