March Student of the Month

March 06, 2008

Cody Wehrli, March Student of the Month, is viewed by friends and teammates as an “inspiration”, by himself as one who is determined, resilient and proud.

He is an “inspiration” because he does what needs to be done even if others aren't. He is generous and loyal. Cody has a gentle, unique way of encouraging and uplifting others. His senior year he was selected captain of his wrestling team.

Cody is determined to make his world a better place by being kind, welcoming and cheerful. He is determined to set positive goals and take steps each day to achieve them. He is determined to move past mistakes and disappointments, turning these into opportunities for growth.

Cody was a Wrestling State Qualifier his junior year, even though he did not qualify his senior year he was genuinely proud of those who did qualify. He practiced with them daily, he provided guidance from his experience, he studied their strategies for hints to help them succeed. As well as wrestling four years, he played football. As in wrestling, he took on a leadership role his senior year in football. His coach could count on him to encourage his teammates and push for the extra yard. Cody proves that “the size of the heart is more important than the size of the body."

Cody has learned to seek clarification and help from his teachers, and each year he has improved academically. He is interested in learning and understanding and he is an OHS Honor Student.

Cody's older brothers, Chad and Shane Sinn, are his inspiration. They have always encouraged him. His particular pride is in their service to our country in the military. “If they can do tough things, so can I."

This summer, as last, Cody will work at the Boone Country Club preparing him for a future in Turf Grass Management. He plans to attend Iowa Central. Cody is the son of Scott and Amy Wehrli. His sister CherRae is a student at Ogden Middle School.

Cody Wehrli, we salute you!
