2026 Student of the Month

May 4, 2026

Ogden High School is proud to recognize Maliyah Sundell as the May Student of the Month. Maliyah is the daughter of Jesse and Kyndra Sundell.  Her dedication, integrity, and commitment to excellence in all aspects of her high school experience make her an outstanding representative of our school community.

Maliyah is not only a dedicated athlete but an exceptionally hard-working student. She has lettered academically all four years of high school, a feat that requires consistent focus and determination in the classroom. Teachers and peers alike rely on her dependability; she is the kind of student who can always be counted on to meet deadlines, support her classmates, and lead by example. Her selection to Homecoming Court is a clear reflection of the high regard in which she is held by everyone at Ogden High.

Throughout her four years here, Maliyah has been a pillar of support for our athletic program. Her commitment to volleyball for four years and her exceptional service as a wrestling team manager for the past seven years—beginning in sixth grade—demonstrate her genuine passion for supporting her teammates and fostering team spirit. She has been the backbone of the wrestling program, showing up day after day with reliability and care. Whether keeping stats, managing equipment, or supporting athletes through tough matches, she has made a difference that went far beyond the scoreboard. The wrestling program will feel her absence next year, and her legacy of dedication will not be forgotten.  Her accomplishments have earned well-deserved recognition. She has lettered in volleyball twice and in wrestling for all four years—a testament to her athletic excellence.

Beyond athletics, Maliyah has balanced multiple responsibilities with a solid work ethic. Her employment at The Lucky Pig and her summer work in the Dietary Department at Mary Greeley Medical Center speak to her strong work ethic and reliability. She has proven herself to be a dependable and dedicated employee in every role she undertakes.

Her commitment to giving back is equally remarkable. For the past five years, she has generously volunteered her time to help work the Kyler Kiner Memorial Youth Tournament, making a direct impact on young athletes in our community. Her service at the Ames Humane Society and her active participation in 4-H clean-up events further demonstrate her compassionate nature and desire to serve others.

As she prepares for the next chapter of her life, we know her character, work ethic, and generosity will serve her exceptionally well. We are grateful for all she has contributed to our school community, and we celebrate her today.

Congratulations on this well-earned honor.
